Summer Days

My DH had to work all weekend so the boys and I decided to spend all day Sunday by the pool, we went out about 10:30am in the morning and stayed out all day with the exception of eating lunch and taking a little break in the early afternoon. I'm so thankful that we have a pool, it is great exercise and the it passes so much time for the children seeing as there is so little to do in our very small town. I really needed the down time, so I gathered a few of my favorite magazines, my cordless phone and tanning oil (I know, I know) and I was a very relaxed lady. I hope where ever you are that you are having a bright sunny summer day!

Shopping

I have been a shopping fool this week trying to gather the things that I will need to redo what once was the dining room and will now be known as the game room/playroom. I have found fabric to "mistreat" the window, spray paint to rehab the the furniture and a great rug for $39. The things that need to be done in the room are:

change the light fixture

paint the furniture

make a mistreatment for the window

make a seat cushion and pillows for the window seat

find a new place to store ebay things (YIKES)

I will post pictures of the transformation and in all fairness I am posting a before picture today, keep in mind that I have cleaned the room out since the photo was taken on Tuesday. Any suggestions for the room will be greatly appreciated.

Also, I want to say thank you to the Nester, Melissa and Meredith for the advice on my screened in porch, I'm working on it and I will post pictures of the progress soon.

Have a great day!

Sunday Supper

We had a beautiful day yesterday so I decided to cook supper for my husband's grandparents, they are such dear & wonderful people. Papaw loves anything homemade and often talks about things that his mother made for him years ago. So I took my sons blackberry picking, we have enough wild blackberries growing on our little country road to feed a small village and our neighbors seem to ignore them, I can't stand to watch them dry up on the vines so we loaded up in the trusty mule and off we went! What a great experience for my sons, they had never done anything like this before, when we got back home we washed the berries and ate a few but I had plenty left to make an old fashion cobbler for Papaw. These are the kind of memories that I wish for my sons, to know that their mother was crazy enough in 90 degree weather to pick berries for a cobbler instead of going to the grocery store to buy them, some things in life are priceless and this was one of those moments, the questions that they had for me and hearing the laughter from their sweet little boy voices when I climbed on the seats of the mule with my BBQ tongs in hand trying reach the ripe berries at the top was worth more to me than anything in the world!

What Would You Do?

Okay bloggers I need help with my screened in porch--what would you do with this space, keep in mind that I need to do this on a budget, I have about $100 for this project. The things that I have for the porch are: a white rocking chair, a yellow serving cart from the 60's, 3 yards of yellow floral fabric and 2 yards of a sage green gingham fabric and a sewing machine. I can't wait to see what you all come up with.

Somerset Cottage

Here is a picture of our little cottage on Lake Cumberland our landlord painted it a beautiful shade of blue to show her Kentucky pride, LOL! This little cottage is so old but we are making wonderful new memories in it. We try to go down every weekend and for a few weeks out of the summer, this year we are renting it through October so that should make for some great fall boat rides before we store the boat for the winter. Lake Cumberland is a fantastic place to visit, boat and relax! The boys are starting to tube, I think a set of skis may be in our future.

Have A Great Day

Family Vacation

We had a wonderful vacation! It was so nice to get away for a few days, we started our trip at Lake Cumberland for the 4th of July and then headed to Orange Beach, Alabama for three days and then back to the lake for the rest of the week. Orange Beach is beautiful and I can't wait to go back.

My Beautiful Niece

This past weekend I got to spend a day with my beautiful niece, she will be one this summer, I wish that I lived closer to her so that I could spoil her.
