Twelve Weeks of Christmas ~ Part Two

Red Writing is hosting Twelve Weeks of Christmas, this is the second in the series, this week is all about family traditions. We have several Christmas traditions that we all look forward to each year but I would have to say that our favorite one started 13 years ago when Tom bought me an ornament for our first Christmas. Each year he gives Johnson, Jonah and me a new ornament that pertains to something that happened that year or a character that one of the boys are into, we also give him an ornament about something he has done for the year. Our tree now tells a story of our life together. I always put the tree up the day after Thanksgiving and I cry my eyes out as I hang each ornament, the memories they bring back are priceless.

Another thing that we do is Santa Sack, my mom made each of the boys a sack to hang on their beds starting December 1st and they get a little treat each night through December 23rd. This was a great idea when they were little and were satisfied with Dollar Tree stuff, now that they are older and know that there isn't a Santa they are requesting CDs, money, ipod gift cards and the list goes on!

What are some of your traditions? When do put your tree up? Do you hit the Black Friday sales?

I love your ornament tradition! What a fabulous way to keep a "journal" - hanging on the tree! Everyone should take up such a neat tradition!
Have a wonderful time getting ready for this Christmas!

That is great! We also do the ornament tradition. This will only be our second year though! I know it will be as special as you have described in years to come.

Thank you for sharing!

When I only had two kids, we did a new picture ornament each year, but now that I have four...we take one picture with ALL of them in it and add it to the tree.

Otherwise, I'd have a tree full of pictures! :)

I love the Santa Bag idea...could you just give them candy? I can see how that would back-fire as they got older....

Oh wow... I forgot all about OUR ornament tradition... I've got a box full of Hallmark Keepsake ornaments, how could I not remember? Thanks for the reminder!

I really like the Santa sack traditions. Your ornament tradition is terrific. Someday (all too soon) when your kids grow up and start families of their own they will have a good start for decorating their trees.

This is so fun getting to read about all the different memories & traditions of everyone. We too do the ornament thing. But my boys could really care less. I'm the one who really gets into this. The Santa sack idea is great. But I'd tell my boys if you don't believe in Santa, you don't get a Santa sack.
